As an entrepreneur, you need to be visible if you want your business to grow. But what about if you’re scared to market your business? Not only does it prevent you from putting yourself out there, but it also stops you from selling your products and services - the only way you can grow and make money!
There are so many reasons why you’re scared to market your business. It could come down to a lack of confidence, impostor syndrome, your introverted nature, or a lack of understanding over how to market authentically. You may need additional coaching and support for some issues - especially if they’re deep-rooted or you need help bringing them into your awareness.
But if you want to overcome your fears around marketing, it’s going to take a mindset shift and a change in perception. It helps to have some marketing facts that support the mindset shift you’re looking to make.
So here are 10 marketing facts you need to know that will do just that!
Marketing fact #1: No one is waiting for you to post and market your business
You may be scared to market your business because you haven’t done it for a while. Maybe you started but then stopped. And now you fear someone will notice how long you’ve been away and say something when you next post.
The reality here is that no one is waiting for you to post. No one is paying that much attention to the frequency of your postings. If you haven’t posted for a while, you’re off their radar.
Marketing fact #2: Not everyone will see your posts
Another reason you may be scared to market your business is the fear that you’re bothering people. You think if you post daily or a couple of times a day, it will annoy your followers. You don’t want to come across as too promotionally or salesy.
The reality here is that algorithms are a funny thing. Except they’re not - they are pretty annoying! You can post several times a day, and your followers and fans still won’t necessarily see them all. Check your post analytics and get the facts that are pertinent to you. Then look to consistently create engaging posts to get those figures up a little.
Marketing fact #3: Not everyone is going to like you in life and business
Fears around what others think of us are a big worry for many entrepreneurs. And that’s natural. After all, it’s an inbuilt survival need to fit in and be accepted by our tribe.
But regardless of whether you market yourself or not, people will make their own decisions about you and your business. It isn’t your job to get everyone to like you. Your job is to help serve those people who are your ideal customers. Because as the popular affirmation states - what other people think of you is none of your business.
Marketing fact #4: You can use your content more than once
It can be pretty stressful coming up with content to promote your business. Often we feel that it has to be new and exciting, unique to us and something that hasn’t been said before. This puts so much pressure on you to create something new - when you don’t have to.
If you have already created content in the past, reuse it. Share your content more than once in its current format. Give it a new graphic or rewrite parts of it, but don’t use it once and forget about it.
Marketing fact #5: You can post the same thing on more than one platform
Content creation can take up so much of your time, and, as mentioned above, it can be pretty stressful. There’s often a belief that you need to create unique content for each platform, but that isn’t the case.
You can create one piece of content and share it on all the different platforms simultaneously. It’s also OK to stagger them, so you’re sharing the same content across different days. It’s your content to do as you see fit!
Marketing fact #6: Your confidence will grow the more you market your business
If you’re scared to market your business, the best thing you can do is to market your business. Your confidence will grow the more you do it - that’s a fact.
Lifehack has a blog post that gives you 10 powerful ways to be more confident. As they state in number 7, the best way to grow confidence is to learn:
Since confidence is often directly linked to abilities, one of the best ways to build your confidence is to get new skills or experience and step out of your comfort zone.

Marketing fact #7: It's expected that you'll market your business
When you have your own business, you need to market yourself in order to grow. But often, as mentioned earlier, you may be holding yourself back, as you’re worried what others will think or you don’t want to come across as salesy.
The fact is, if people are connected with you, they know you have your own business. It isn’t going to be a shock to anyone if you market it! This is more about your fears than their perceived expectations.
Marketing fact #8: You’re doing a disservice if you don’t put your business out there
When you’re scared to market your business, you’re doing yourself, your business and your potential clients a disservice.
You have a solution that could potentially help them in some way, and you’re not sharing that information. You could be the one solution someone needs. Are you going to help them - or let your fears hold you back instead?
Marketing fact #9: Consistency is more important than frequency
Frequency of posting, promoting and engaging are all worries that plague many entrepreneurs. You can spend a lot of time and energy looking for the ‘perfect’ frequency or the ‘right’ post to share to get the engagement you want.
But the only certainty you have is this - the more consistent you are, the more your posts will be seen. So stop stressing about the frequency, and opt for consistency instead.
Marketing fact #10: No one cares, except you - and that’s a good thing
This last one is a bit of a double-edged sword. You want people to care about what you do and the solutions you offer. But as the previous facts show, you also fear that they won’t like you or care at all about any of it.
The reality is no one cares, except you, at this moment in time. No one can care about what you do as much as you currently do. And that’s a good thing.
Your marketing efforts are designed to show what your business can do for those people you can help. You’re using your marketing to highlight a problem your ideal customers have and to showcase how well you know them - so you can offer the solution you provide.
Do that well enough, and you’ll get more people interested in your business. Have a solution that works, and more people will care about what you do. And the more people that care, the more they’ll help you market your business by sharing your posts and their stories and experiences of working with you - and the more clients you’ll then attract.
But this cycle can only start when you decide to market your business more. So use the facts above to help you stop being scared to market your business and change your mindset around marketing as a whole.
